The Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) at the University of Washington (www.jisao.washington.edu) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on new ocean carbon observing technologies. JISAO fosters collaborative research and education between the University of Washington and NOAA, as well as with other major organizations throughout the U.S. This 12-month, full-time position will be with the JISAO/PMEL Carbon Group at the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) in Seattle (www.pmel.noaa.gov/co2).
Under the guidance of Drs. Adrienne Sutton and Chris Sabine, the successful candidate will participate in pilot projects to evaluate new ocean carbon observing sensors and platforms on the U.S. West Coast, a Hawaiian coral reef ecosystem, and in the tropical Pacific. This position will involve processing and interpreting sensor data and examining the potential applications to ocean acidification and CO2 flux observing. Successful applicants must hold a recent PhD or foreign equivalent in order to assume a post-doctoral position. A strong foundation in ocean carbon chemistry and experience with testing, deploying, and analyzing data from autonomous sensors is desired.
The contract is renewable for a second year, subject to approval, satisfactory performance, and availability of funding.
