In this episode, we follow carbon data points as they are collected by a buoy at the surface of the ocean and transmitted to scientists. Not only do these global measurements of carbon dioxide help us understand the rate of exchange between our ocean and atmosphere, but they also inform the health of ecosystems that communities around the world rely on.
With support from NOAA’s Global Ocean Monitoring and Observations Program and Ocean Acidification Program, scientists at NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory and other labs and programs aid international efforts to monitor the global ocean’s accumulation of atmospheric carbon as part of the carbon cycle.
