Description: This position is managed by a three faculty and involves extensive collaborations with other research groups; as such it requires close collaboration with graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, Marine Operations staff, and field assistants to coordinate laboratory activities for students and staff. The Jr. Specialist will be involved in data analyses and interpretation, and the writing and presenting of results. This will include, but may not be limited to, writing, review and editing of proposals, presentation of results at scientific conferences, and writing and editing manuscripts related to their area of expertise.

The position is 100% (full‐time) for 12 months and is located at UC Davis’ Bodega Marine Laboratory. This position will have laboratory and field duties under the supervision of Professors Hill, Sanford and Gaylord, including:

1) Contributions to scholarly research, including:

• Assisting with general laboratory operations and experiments: managing projects, supplies, equipment calibration/maintenance; organize field sampling efforts, lead the analysis of water quality samples, manage student field assistants and manage schedules for shared use equipment; manage laboratory safety information and maintain a clean, safe, well-organized laboratory.

• Preparation and analysis of water samples for ocean acidification research including: spectrophotometric pH analyses, alkalinity via autotitration, and calibration of field pH and pCO2 sensors (FET, spectrophotometric, IRGA).

• Regular fieldwork in Tomales Bay, Bodega Bay and other coastal field sites. Coastal sampling near deployed sensors, preparing bottles/samples, calibrating sensors. Fieldwork will require working under cold and wet conditions at times.

2) Communication of results via presentations at professional conferences (e.g., Ocean Sciences, American Geophysical Union, Western Society of Naturalists), writing of proposals and coauthorship on manuscripts, and the opportunity for public engagement including presentations and online writing targeted for the public.

3) University service in the form of mentoring and training undergraduates in the laboratory on independent research projects and internship opportunities
