Joint postdoctoral position in ocean ecosystem and biogeochemical modeling- UCLA, UW & SCCWRP, USA

The UCLA Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics and Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and Southern California Coastal Water Research Project Authority (www.sccwrp.org), a leader in aquatic environmental research, seek a postdoctoral researcher in for a joint appointment in Ocean Modeling.  The successful candidate will join a collaboration among research groups at UCLA (Jim McWilliams), University of Washington (Curtis Deutsch) and SCCWRP (Martha Sutula) who are engaged in the development and application of Earth System Models to assess the interaction between anthropogenic nutrient inputs, climate, ocean ecosystems, and ocean biogeochemistry.

The postdoctoral researcher will be heavily involved in application of the biogeochemical models to quantify the effects of anthropogenic nutrient inputs on ocean productivity, hypoxia and acidification. He or she will also work to translate these modeling outcomes to nutrient policy and management applications.   Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Ocean or Climate Science, Biogeochemistry, Ecology, or a closely related field, and effective oral and written communication skills.  Experience with numerical modeling is advantageous.

The position is a shared appointment between UCLA and SCCWRP, with time spent at both locations.  The initial term of appointment is one year, renewable on an annual basis for up to three years. The salary is $55-60K with 100% paid medical insurance and retirement benefits.  Applicants should submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for at least 3 references to modelingpostdoc(at)sccwrp.org.  Review of applications will begin as they are received and continue until the position is filled.
