Postdoctoral position in oceanography – Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO), University of Conception, Chile

The Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) is a Center of Excellence devoted to fundamental oceanographic research in the South Pacific.

Full-time postdoctoral positions are available immediately at the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) to undertake innovative research and to develop questions in any of these research lines or themes, in association with two or more of IMO’s Associate Researchers. Candidates will have to demonstrate experience and motivation to do research in their preferred research line, using observational, experimental and/or modelling approaches. Independent of the area of preference, candidates will be expected to collaborate with other areas. Successful candidates will be expected to develop their research topics with their principal hosting investigators, to produce new grants, publish their research as first author in high impact journals, and contribute collaboratively to related research projects.

One of the research lines is dealing with the impact of ocean acidification and anoxia on plankton communities under changing ocean scenarios (Adaptations to a Changing Ocean).

Applications will be received until 5 September 2016. The work of the selected postdocs can be based at any of the parent universities of the Associated Researchers (in Concepcion, Santiago or Valparaiso – Chile). The appointment will be for a minimum of one year with extensions of up to four years, pending progress. The annual gross liquid salary is approximately US$ 25,600 after taxes and deductions, but can vary depending on experience.

Postulation requirements include:

1. Ph.D. degree completed before taking up the appointment and received no earlier than January 2011.
2. Curriculum Vitae, with a minimum of two first-author publications in ISI-ranked journals.
3. A letter expressing the motivation of the candidate for undertaking the position in connection with IMO’s research lines and a brief outline (2-3 pages) of proposed research.
4. Names of three scientists with whom the candidate has previously worked or interacted including emails and telephone numbers.
