Ocean acidification could cause fish to be lost at sea (audio)

Sound is essential to the ability of fish to orient themselves in the vast ocean.

For some fish, such as barramundi, that are spawned in open water and need to use sound and their instincts shelter while they grow, it is essential to survival.

Tullio Rossi is a PhD student from the University of Adelaide’s School of Biological Sciences. He has discovered that the effects of human-induced ocean acidification are putting this delicate process at risk and could ultimately leave fish lost at sea.
