WA governor to announce action on ocean acidity

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Gov. Chris  Gregoire plans an announcement Tuesday on steps the state of Washington may  take in response to the increasing acidity of the ocean, which affects the  shellfish industry.

She’s making the announcement at  10 at the Seattle  Aquarium with the administrator of the National  Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other officials.

Gregoire appointed a panel of  science and policy experts in February to suggest ways to protect shellfish and  promote clean water industries. Ocean acidification is caused by increased  carbon dioxide in the air and from polluted runoff.
