Global warming demonstration today

A global warming demonstration is scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. today at the Kincaid Park outdoor center, part of a synchronized global protest. The goal is to send a message to national and world leaders asking them to champion legislation on climate change and ocean acidification and to draft a strong international climate treaty in December in Copenhagen, according to organizers of the event.

The global event is being coordinated by 350.org, a reference to event is 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide as the safe upper limit for the atmosphere, according to the group. The Anchorage event is organized by local resident Terri Pauls, with help from Audubon Alaska, Alaska Youth for Environmental Action, the National Wildlife Federation Alaska office, Repower Alaska, and the Alaska Center for the Environment, Pauls said.
