Brown calls for permanent offshore drilling ban

Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday asked President Barack Obama to permanently ban new offshore oil and gas drilling in California, an apparent bid to lock in environmental protections before Donald Trump takes office.

Brown announced it Tuesday at the Hotel del Colorado, where he joined other government and non-profit leaders to launch the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification.
