US Center side event at COP21: “Oceans Under Pressure”, Thursday, 3 December 2015

Date & time: Thursday, 3 December 2015, 1:15 PM

Location: US Center at UNFCCC COP21

Description: This event will include a panel of experts who will discuss current and projected climate impacts on the world’s vital ocean ecosystems, and what can be done to prepare for and respond to these impacts.  Climate-related changes such as warming oceans, rising seas, ocean acidification, sea level rise and coastal droughts are already degrading important biological resources (e.g., fish stocks, coral reefs, coastal wetlands) and affecting the people, communities and economies that depend on them.   These impacts are expected to significantly increase with continued changes in the planet’s climate system. This event will also highlight the importance of ocean observations, research and modeling to track changes, deliver early warnings, and provide decision-makers with the information they need  to reduce risks and increase resilience of both marine resources (e.g., fish stocks) and resource-dependent communities.
