Postdoctoral opportunity: MOPGA-Campus, France

Laboratoire d’Océanographie de Villefranche (LOV) – Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and Sorbonne Université, France 12 months. Deadline for local selection of applicants: 15 May 2020; Deadline for MOPGA application: 5 July 2020

Contacts: Steeve Comeau (steeve.comeau@obs-vlfr.fr); Frédéric Gazeau (f.gazeau@obs- vlfr.fr); Jean-Pierre Gattuso (gattuso@obs-vlfr.fr); Núria Teixidó (nuria.teixido@obs-vlfr.fr)

Description: The program Make Our Planet Great Again-MOPGA” open calls to fund a Postdoctoral Researcher position for 12 months. For details about the selection process, eligibility, eligible countries and documentation visit: https://bit.ly/2ReNf6a. LOV could offer an extension.

Location: This position will be located at LOV, Villefranche-sur-mer, France. LOV is a leading French oceanographic institution dedicated to marine science research. It is a research unit of the CNRS and Sorbonne Université. It is internationally renowned in the fields of biogeochemistry, global environmental change, marine optics, ecology/physiology and microbial ecology.

Three main research themes are prioritized:

  • In the frame of 4OCEANS-MOPGA project (2018-2023): Functional biodiversity, resilience and ecosystem shifts of benthic communities to climate change and ocean acidification (OA); Physiological, ecological and adaptive responses of benthic marine species to environmental change; Nature-based approaches to minimize the impacts of OA.
  • In the frame of the CocoriCO2 project (2020-2022) dealing with the impacts of ocean warming and acidification on shellfish (oysters, mussels) farming in France through high- frequency monitoring of carbonate chemistry and long-term perturbation experiments.
  • In the frame of “The future of Arctic coastal ecosystems – Identifying transitions in fjord systems and adjacent coastal areas” (FACE-IT) project (2020-2024) dealing with the future of Arctic coastal ecosystems, more specifically the impacts of ice loss, warming, and freshening on coastal benthic communities.

Application process and timeline: The selection process will unfold in two phases: in the first phase (pre-selection), interested candidates holding a doctoral degree for less than 5 years should send the following information: 1) Cover letter of 1-2 pages (with a brief summary of the candidate’s research experiences and long-term goals), 2) curriculum vitae (with a list of publications), 3) contact information of 2-3 scientists familiar with the candidate and his/her research work. The deadline for this first phase is 15 May 2020.

In the second phase, the selected candidate, together with LOV scientists, will submit the application to the “Make Our Planet Great Again” online system. The application will comprise: a research project, a CV with list of publications, PhD diploma, CV of the postdoctoral supervisor, letter of commitment from the French host institution for the co-financing of the post-doctorate, and letters of recommendation (https://bit.ly/2ReNf6a). The deadline of this second phase is 5 July 2020.
