Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) in Chemistry, Oceanography, Marine Science or a related field. Experience running assays in the laboratory. Experience on oceanographic vessels. Experience working with oceanographic equipment. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) in Chemistry, Oceanography, Marine Science, Fisheries Science or a related field. Experience with laboratory equipment to analyze carbonate chemistry. Experience analyzing data and conducting statistical analysis. Experience identifying fish and conducting fish trawls. Experience with statistical software packages such as R, Matlab or similar.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Instructional Support Associate will conduct research and support laboratory projects. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for organizing, coordinating and carrying out the field components of the Ocean Indicators project. This consists of offshore monitoring of carbonate chemistry in the New York Bight, participating in research cruises to collect water samples and conduct chemical analysis of samples in the laboratory. The incumbent will work with a transdisciplinary team of ecologists and physical and chemical oceanographers during fieldwork and analysis. Therefore, the selected applicant must have an understanding of carbonate chemistry and ocean acidification.
The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Conduct experiments with water samples in the laboratory for carbonate chemistry.
Organize, synthesize, and perform data and statistical analysis. Analyze results, prepare reports and help communicate results to state officials at NYSDEC.
Assist with field sampling in oceanographic cruises as needed.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

This is a full time appointment. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
