Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network international workshop: 14-17 April 2019, Hangzhou, China

The 4th Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON) International Workshop is to be held on 14-17 April 2019 in Hangzhou, China. The workshop is convened by State Key Laboratory of Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED), Second Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration, China. The International Atomic Energy Agency Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre (IAEA OA-ICC), the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO), and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ocean Acidification Program are generous co-sponsors for the workshop.

The 4th GOA-ON International Workshop will bring together scientists from around the world to discuss emerging aspects from the coupled effects of ocean acidification with multiple stressors, review global ocean acidification status and forecast capabilities, and explore opportunities for capacity development and stakeholder engagement. We seek to better understand ocean acidification’s impacts on industry, increase coordination across nations and stakeholders, and highlight the widespread recognition of the threat of ocean acidification to the health and sustainability of marine ecosystems. Two special events on i) better improving science-industry responses to multi-stressor impacts on aquaculture, and ii) a joint science training workshop on a remote-sensing-based software will be organized to extend the coverage of the workshop. The outcomes of this workshop will provide input to and help frame the next Symposium on the Ocean in a High CO2 World, expected for 2020.

Registration is now open and abstracts are due by 10 January 2019. Early-bird registration will be open until 20 February 2019, and regular registration will close on 31 March 2019.
