Okinawa IPCC OAEM side event

IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has started its process towards the publication of the Fifth Assessment Report in 2014.

As part of a contribution to this process, Working Groups I (The Physical Science Basis) and II (Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability) are jointly convening the Workshop on the Impacts of Ocean Acidification on Marine Biology and Ecosystems, to be held in Okinawa, Japan from 17th to 19th January 2011. The Workshop will be hosted by the Ministry of the Environment Japan, in close cooperation with the National Institute for Environmental Studies and the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa.

Approximately 70 internationally renowned scientists will gather at this event for three day’s discussion with local experts in the field. In accordance with IPCC rules, this Workshop is a closed session event and participation is by invitation only. However, in aiming to stimulate Ocean Acidification research within the Japanese scientific community at large as well as to raise broader awareness on global environmental issues among the citizens of Okinawa, it was decided that the local organizers would hold a pre-workshop event on 16th January.
